The holiday season is quickly coming upon us, and people everywhere have started shopping to buy gifts for their loved ones and friends.
This can be a stressful time of year when thinking about what to buy for whom or how much you can spend. Sometimes shopping to find all the “right” gifts can tire you out and negatively impact the good feelings we want to feel when trying to do something good for others.
Savvy shoppers looking for deals know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday Now GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on December 3, 2013. It is a new Canadian movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Cyber Monday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” GivingTuesday is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others.
GivingTuesday is an opportunity for you to buy a different kind of gift — a gift for your community, a way to help someone in need. GivingTuesday is an opportunity to go against the grain of buying more “stuff” with your money, and instead using your money to make a difference. It’s an opportunity to remember what the holiday season is really all about–helping one another, giving thanks for the good fortune in your life, bringing happiness to others, enjoying time with family and friends.
Join the GivingTuesday movement and talk to your friends, family, and coworkers about the impact you can have on the lives of people who are homeless and poor.
Give the gift of warmth, hope, and sustenance to those who rely on Bissell Centre. And for those who cannot walk away from a great deal at the mall, think about making a gift to Bissell Centre in addition to your purchase–maybe donate the amount you saved. You can also buy a gift for a family member or friend at our online Giving Guide. Or you can click HERE to make a donation.Enjoy this special time of year. We are working hard to make sure it’s a special time for thousands of people we are blessed to serve.
