Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission. As a volunteer, the gifts of your time and effort are very much appreciated. Together, we can make a difference in our community!

Proof of a vaccine against Covid-19 may be required for volunteers working indoors with vulnerable populations.

On-Going Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities typically available in our Community Space, Childcare, Financial Empowerment Program, Food Services, and Thrift Shop. Most roles are available Monday to Saturday 9 AM – 4 PM. There are limited opportunities to volunteer on your own time from your own preferred location.

Special Event Opportunities

We host a number of special events throughout the year, which require volunteers. These occasions are suitable for corporate and community-based groups, as well as individuals who are looking for one-time commitments.

Group Opportunities

We invite families, friends, co-workers, and student groups ranging from 2 to 10 people to volunteer at Bissell Centre. Groups are welcome to come one-time, or on an on-going basis.

Student Practicums

Placements vary each term. Please email us to learn if we will have anything available.

All students must:

• Be 18 or older
• Provide proof of at least two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination
• Provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check that is less than six months old. (We can help you apply for one, if needed.)

We also require the following:

• A current Affiliation Agreement (MOU) with the school
• Clarity on the number of hours required within the set period of time
• An outline of what the student is expected to learn
• Contact details of the student’s school supervisor
