Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Please note that most roles are only available Monday to Friday 9 AM – 4 PM.
We do not have evening or weekend options at this time.

Community Meals

Help organize food donations, prepare for our Childcare, Women’s Hot Lunch, and Casual Labour programs, and Community Space.
Minimum age: 16

Make Tax Time Pay

Help provide free basic tax return preparation to eligible, lower income service users. No experience necessary, training provided.
Minimum age: 18

Super Clinics Greater

Greet and direct attendees as they arrive at our one-stop financial support events. No experience necessary. Training provided.
Minimum age: 18-

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for a way to give back as a team, family, or organization? We invite groups ranging from 2 to 10 people to come learn more about our work, and to help prepare food or assist us in our Community Closets and special projects.

Special Event Opportunities

Looking for a one-time commitment? We host a number of events and fundraisers throughout the year which require volunteers, which are a great fit for corporate and community-based volunteer groups, as well as individuals. Age restrictions may apply.

Gift Wrap for Bissell
November/DecemberHelp support Bissell by being a gift wrap elf at one of several The Bay locations to benefit Bissell Centre’s programs and participants!



Festive Giveaway
November/December

Help us create a free Christmas Shopping Wonderland in support of the families we work with each year! Volunteers are in charge of the set-up, re-stocking, and distribution of all gifts during event days.


Giving Sunday
DecemberHelp unload and sort Christmas gifts donated by Edmontonians throughout the giving season! Community members are then given the opportunity to “shop” for these gifts for their family members during Festive Giveaway.

Join us throughout the year on special occasions and help us serve a delicious meal to share and enjoy with our community members! Special meals to be announced. Please check back for updated and current opportunities.


New Year’s Day Dinner
January 1, 2021Ring in the new year with us by preparing and serving food for approximately 800 people during our annual New Year’s Day meal! Volunteers can also help with setting up, greeting our guests, and providing security.



Coldest Night of the Year
February 2021

Brave the cold with us to support Bissell Centre’s annual Coldest Night of the Year walkathon to help raise money and awareness of what our homeless participants experience during the long winter.
