Walk for Bissell on February 26

Walk for Bissell at Coldest Night of the Year, our largest annual fundraiser that supports individuals and families struggling in our community, especially during the coldest months.

Start by asking family and friends to support you through donations in the weeks leading up to your walk and on February 26, get walking!

On event day, you can either head to one of our pre-selected routes or create a path of your own. You can walk solo or with others (safely, of course). Don’t forget to take a few selfies and tag #WalkForBissell.

This event is a covid-safe and family-friendly walk to raise funds for charities serving people experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger across the country. This year Bissell Centre has set a goal of $120,000 in donations, and we cannot do it without you!

Walk with us on Saturday, February 26, 2022– there’s a place for everyone!

Why We Walk for Bissell

Too many individuals and families are struggling in our community, especially during winter’s coldest months.

Funds raised will support our Community Space, which allows individuals to walk in out of the cold and gain not only immediate access to basic needs like food, clothing, shelter and hygiene facilities but the opportunity to seek life-changing supports to help empower them to move from poverty to prosperity.

Share the Cause on Social

We’ve created a toolkit for team captains and walkers to use that includes a few pre-written posts to help you ask for team members and donations. Take a look! We hope you find it useful.

Suggested Walking Routes

This year we’re doing distanced walks, which means that you get to choose your route. Walk your neighbourhood or choose from the several routes we’ve come up in parks across the city. Click below to preview these suggested routes.

Borden Park Route: 2.5 KM
Hawrelak Park Route: 2.5 KM
Gallagher Park Route: 5 KM
Louise McKinney Riverfront Park: 5 KM

Bissell staff and volunteers will be out at Hawrelak and Gallagher park from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm. Then they will move over to Louise McKinney and Borden park from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Watch for their station, as they may have some warm beverages to keep you warm and toasty on your walk!

Toque Pickup Locations

Captains: it’s time to pick up your teams’ toques! We’ll be setting up around the city, so come meet us at the location most convenient for you.

February 23 – Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre | 6-7 pm
88 Avenue and 85 Street

February 26 – Bissell Centre East | 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Scavenger Hunt

We will also be running a scavenger hunt from 10 am to 5 pm on walk day! You’ll want to create an account on the website or their app. On Saturday morning, we’ll send all walkers the code for our scavenger hunt. Try to cross as many things off the list during your walk as you can.

Volunteers will be at all the parks from 1 to 4 pm to assist with the scavenger hunt.
