Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission. As a volunteer, the gifts of your time and effort are very much appreciated. Together, we can make a difference in our community!

All volunteer spaces are wheelchair accessible. Please let us know if you require additional accommodations as we strive to be inclusive and supportive.

Proof of a vaccine against Covid-19 may be required for volunteers working indoors with vulnerable populations.

Volunteer Benefits

  • Work Experience: We can provide a reference after 3+ months of volunteering
  • 25% Thrift Shop Discount
  • Flexible Scheduling: Use the MyImpact app (available on iOs and Android) to manage your shifts
  • Skill Development: Access the same training as Bissell staff
  • Sense of Purpose: Contribute meaningfully to your community

Individual Opportunities

We welcome volunteers for both single shifts and longer-term commitments.

Opportunities range from short-term tasks like bread delivery or helping in the Thrift Store, to more structured roles like supporting community members at our front reception or helping them file their taxes.

We also host a few special events throughout the year, which depend on volunteer support.

Group Opportunities

We invite families, friends, co-workers, and student groups ranging from 2 to 10 people to volunteer at Bissell Centre. Groups are welcome to come one-time, or on an on-going basis. Our special events are especially suitable for corporate and community-based groups.

Student Practicums

Placements vary each term. Please email us to learn if we will have anything available.

All students must:

  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check that is less than six months old. (We can help you apply for one, if needed.)

We also require the following:

  • A current Affiliation Agreement (MOU) with the school
  • Clarity on the number of hours required within the set period of time
  • An outline of what the student is expected to learn
  • Contact details of the student’s school supervisor

Please email engagement@bissellcentre.org if you have specific questions.
