Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for a Junior Chef to join our dedicated Food Services team as we journey with the Community towards an elimination of poverty. If you’re ready to bring your heart to a fast-paced, collaborative environment, join us in making an impact in our community.
How You’ll Make an Impact?
Reporting to the Head Chef, Food Services, the Junior Chef will be an integral member of our culinary team, responsible for assisting in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about food, eager to learn, and ready to kickstart their career in the culinary arts. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced chefs, gain valuable hands-on experience, and develop your cooking skills in a professional setting.
- Food Preparation: Assist in preparing and portioning ingredients for various dishes as instructed by senior chefs. This includes chopping, slicing, dicing, and measuring ingredients accurately.
- Cooking: Under the guidance of senior chefs, participate in cooking a variety of dishes, adhering to recipes and culinary standards. Learn various cooking techniques and methods, ensuring food is prepared to the highest quality.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized kitchen workspace at all times. Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
- Food Presentation: Learn to plate and garnish dishes with attention to detail and aesthetics. Present dishes in an attractive and appealing manner to enhance the dining experience.
- Kitchen Assistance: Support the kitchen team in day-to-day operations, including stocking ingredients, maintaining inventory, and helping with kitchen-related tasks as needed.
What You’ll Bring?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some prior experience in a kitchen environment, culinary school, or relevant cooking courses is a plus but not mandatory.
