Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for a Summer Student – Accounting Clerk to join our dedicated Finance team as we journey with the Community towards an elimination of poverty.  If you’re ready to bring your heart to a fast-paced, collaborative environment, join us in making an impact in our community.

How You’ll Make an Impact?

Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Summer Student – Accounting Clerk supports the Finance team with day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month end activities, as well as ad hoc projects to support the Finance Team. This role offers hands-on exposure to accounting processes in a supportive learning environment and is ideal for a student pursuing an education in accounting.

The student will assist with maintaining accurate financial records while developing practical workplace skills, professionalism, and an understanding of finance operations within a mission-driven organization.

 

This position is an 8-week contract funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. In accordance with program requirements, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. Candidates must also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Assist with processing purchase invoices and payment requests in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist with vendor setup and maintenance under the direction of the Finance team.
  • Provide administrative support for accounts receivable activities, including filing and record maintenance.
  • Create reconciliations for accounts and programs.
  • Complete bank reconciliations to support month end processing.
  • Respond to basic internal and external inquiries in a professional and courteous manner, escalating issues as needed.

What You’ll Bring?

  • Post-secondary courses in Accounting, Finance, Business or other relevant field.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience in similar and/or relevant position is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty and Edmonton’s urban core and knowledge of relevant community and government resources is considered an asset.
