Celebrating Culture and Connection
Building bridges to Indigenous cultural identity
Did you know that around half of those who access Bissell Centre’s programs identify as Indigenous? With your help, we’re transforming our programs to better support their unique needs.
Bissell’s Indigenous Engagement Program offers community members opportunities to connect with their Indigenous roots, learn about their culture and explore new ways to honour sacred traditions.
Our ultimate goal is to facilitate critical cultural connections, furthering our dedication to Truth and Reconciliation.
Our Indigenous Engagement team hosts special events where people can build connections with their Indigenous heritage. Powwows and Round Dances are essential celebrations, and we’re proud to create spaces for our community to participate fully in ceremonies and activities that serve as a bridge to their Indigenous heritage.
One-on-one support ensures community members can find what they need to get in touch with their cultural identity and Elders are readily available to provide guidance in challenging times.
Thank you for strengthening connections to Indigenous roots in our community. Your partnership fosters a deeper sense of belonging and a brighter future.
Adding to your Impact
Donate – Shop – Recycle – Sustain!
Every time you give a monetary gift to Bissell Centre, you help people in our community overcome challenges in their lives.
Did you know you can widen your impact even more by donating your pre-loved items to Bissell Thrift Shop?
Our Thrift Shops directly support Bissell Centre, with 89 cents of every dollar generated going back into Bissell programs. That’s one more way you can help provide housing, create jobs, support families, offer childcare, and work toward ending poverty in our community.
From clothing to art and housewares, every donation means one fewer item in our landfills. Not only can you feel good by donating items; you can shop too! Browse in-store or online from the shop’s curated selection, knowing you’re promoting sustainability as you add to your support of Bissell programs.
Visit bissellthriftshop.com to find out what new and gently-used items you can donate, and to make sure you don’t miss out on events like Thrifty Thursdays, Sustainable Saturdays or the latest flash sale!
Community-Based, Personalized Support for Mental Wellness
Empowering people to realize their own abilities and reach their full potential
Bissell’s Mental Health Services staff work with community members whose mental health concerns are preventing them from meeting their economic, social and personal living needs. We meet participants one-on-one and involve them in goal setting and planning.
Our goal is to help people connect independently with community-based programs that address mental health and/or addiction concerns.
Your ongoing support helps others to achieve their goals. Thank you.
