Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill the position of Research Assistant.  This is a temporary contract of eight (8) weeks for 35 hours per week. Pay is $21/hour.  This position reports to the Business Analyst.   The expectation is that the successful candidate will work at home for most of the time with about 5% to 20% of the time in the office at Bissell Centre East.

 

Use your social science data skills in a real world not-for profit environment to make an impact on the ground. We seek to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of poverty, in order to increase the effectiveness of our work. Activities may include but not be limited to literature reviews, analysis of data (qualitative content analysis, or statistical analysis). Activities will be matched to applicant skill and interest areas. Applicants can expect to learn about research methodology in an applied context, grow new skillsets in different types of analysis, and to learn about the principles of evaluation.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Creating presentations and knowledge dissemination materials
  • Support with writing reports, editing and citations
  • Literature reviews
  • Data Audits and Cleaning
  • Other Research and Evaluation project support as needed
    • Creating documentation around current data collection
    • Contribute to survey design
    • Support with analysis
    • Creating/reviewing ethics documentation
    • Database Research
  • “Safety Walks” around perimeter of Bissell Centre area are shared by all Bissell Centre staff. Grounded in harm reduction principles, these partnered 20-40 minute walks include checking in with community members and safely collecting used drug paraphernalia.

 

Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 with a Health Canada approved vaccine is a mandatory requirement.

 

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • In progress Post-Secondary
  • Minimum of one-year employment experience
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core is an asset
  • Proven Critical thinking abilities
  • Research methodology (content analysis; statistical analysis; literature review)
  • Knowledge of evaluation and excel
  • Knowledge of Stata or R an asset
