Job Purpose

The role of the Driver is to represent Bissell Centre as they operate a company branded vehicle and interact with donors and customers at designated delivery and pick up locations.  This position requires a focus on safety and customer service alongside the ability to work independently and problem solve in the field and.

Duties and Responsibilities

Driving & Customer Service

  • Pick up and deliver a wide variety of items to different addresses using a company provided delivery vehicle and equipment
  • Follow routes and time schedule
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with donors and customers
  • Frequent loading and unloading of heavy donations and materials on and off the truck
  • Maintain the work area for efficient and effective sorting and materials management
  • Assist staff with lifting heavy articles
  • Safely operate company equipment and follow all rules and regulations while driving in a safe and professional manner

General and Administrative

  • Empathetic towards, and ability to communicate and support individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges
  • This position requires varied mental and emotional effort, must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations, provide conflict resolution and work directly with individuals with barriers
  • Participate in probationary and annual performance reviews
  • Attend scheduled staff and supervision meetings
  • Report any incidents/accidents, ensuring that confidential information is reported to the supervisor on shift or manager
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety and Loss/Profit Prevention policies and procedures to ensure the safety of customers and team members
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months working experience
  • Sufficient command of spoken and written English
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Good organizational skills
  • Willing to perform routine tasks
  • Ability to spend frequent periods standing with a constant opportunity to move about. It is a frequent requirement to stoop or lift material, fixtures or equipment and climb a ladder. The Driver must regularly lift and/or move up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and occasionally lift and/or move up to 36 kg (80 lbs.) using appropriate equipment.

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to work alone
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Check will be required prior to hire

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures
  • This role works closely with customers who are experiencing complex life situations. Due to this, the Driver will occasionally experience physical and/or verbal abuse from and between customers.

  • Child Intervention Record Check
  • Alberta Class 5 License, satisfactory driver’s abstract may be an asset
  • Proof of Full Covid Vaccination

Training Requirements

  • Conflict into Calm

 

The above-noted training must be completed during the first six months of employment.
