Looking for work? Need to Hire? We can help!
Bissell Centre addresses both sides of employment related challenges: we help individuals searching for meaningful and sustainable employment, and provide employers meet their recruitment needs.
What Can We Help You With?
Employment Services offers an integrated approach to assist participants entering or re-entering the workforce. We provide assessments, referrals, life management workshops, employment counselling, safety courses, resume development, supported job searches and placement opportunities.
We offer three unique pre-employment programs that run quarterly:
- Moving Up
- Strengthening Our Spirit
- Women’s Pre-Employment Program
Employment Services program offers a variety of safety tickets, such as CSTS, First Aid, and H2S to those who are enrolled in any one of our pre-employment programs or demonstrate a commitment to reaching their employment goals.
Transitional Labour Program
In consultation with our business partners, Employment Services can refer job-ready, program-tested participants who might fit an employer’s need.
The transitional labour model allows the employer and the worker to work together for a period of 2-3 weeks to determine fit. In many ways the transitional model is a prolonged job interview. If the placement is deemed a success by both parties after the trial period, the worker then moves to Part or Full Time status.
Employment Services works with over 500 local businesses throughout the city of Edmonton. Of those, over 40 work directly with Employment Services under the Full Time referral model.
Within this model, Employment Services works collaboratively with companies, taking the time to understand their hiring needs and company culture, so that referrals are done in a responsible manner.
Workers must access Employment Services programming to be considered for referral into Full-time placements.
Casual Labour Placement Services
Registered Bissell Centre community members seeking short-term employment can access our Casual Labour Placement program, where Bissell Centre connects them with employers through a variety of job placements opportunities.
All of our Employment Programs, including Casual Labour, are free of charge to both employers or workers.
Typically, workers are paid in cash daily. Individuals referred to employers are provided a healthy bagged lunch and basic safety equipment such as work gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, and coveralls when available. Highly motivated workers are often offered longer term or permanent employment.
