Community Donation Collections
We may be coming to a place near you for easy donation drop-off! Bissell Centre has kicked off a new initiative to reach our donors more easily and generate additional goods to the shelves of our Thrift Shoppe and Community Closet. Throughout this year, we will be hosting donation drives at various community leagues and schools. We’ll gladly take gently used books, clothing, household items, and small electronics and appliances. For the schedule and additional information, click here. Note: There are no collections scheduled at this time, but check back soon for September dates.

Looking Ahead... Putting Poverty Behind Us
Keynote Speakers: Second Cup Co-Founder Frank O'Dea and Homeless to Harverd's Liz Murray
Date: Wednesday, October 6, 2010
Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Location: Grant MacEwan University, 10700 - 104 Avenue
Cost: $100
Keynote speakers and other guest speakers will portray the vision of a future without poverty and how each of us has a role in making that happen. Like the cross-sectoral committees that came together across the province to create community plans to end homelessness, there is recognition that the social service sector alone cannot solve the complex issues of poverty and homelessness. Building on the success of those relationships, Looking Forward...Putting Poverty Behind Us will target corporations and business people, funders, service providers, advocates, government employees, policy makers, faith-based communities, students and the general public from across the province to engage in a dialogue on poverty and potential strategies for moving families and individuals toward greater economic security. There will be opportunities for small groups to discuss in break-out sessions. Breakfast and lunch are included.
