Skill Enhancement
Skill Enhancement promotes employment readiness through skill training and goal-setting programs. Frequent workshop topics include Preparing for Your Interview, Supported Job Search, Resume Writing, Personal Power and Money Management. Safety Tickets are difficult for many community members to afford, and therefore Bissell provides the training free of charge for CSTS, H2S Alive and Confined Space.
Moving Up engages participants in a variety of training seminars and provides one safety ticket per week. Through this program, individuals learn concrete skills to prepare for full-time employment, identify personal barriers and work to overcome them.
Strengthening Our Spirit (SOS) is a three week program that brings together the elements of Aboriginal teachings, sharing circles and life skills training and pre-employment training.
Women’s Pre-Employment Program supports mothers with young children who have little or no work experience but are ready to enter the work force. The program seeks to bring traditional life and work skills training to the participants and features speakers related to the program content.
In 2009,
- 732 Safety Tickets were issued
- 480 adults were assisted in developing their resumes
- Over 100 life management workshops held 12 graduations were held for 115 community members
