Our Supporters

The United Church

As a founder of Bissell Centre, The United Church of Canada remains a vital part of the financial health of our organization. Through the many levels of the United Church, Bissell Centre is still seen as an outreach ministry. This thought permeates down from the National Governing body to individuals connected to the Church. A special thanks to the following:

• Alberta Northwest Conference – United Church of Canada
• Buchanan-Eastwood Church
• Edmonton Presbytery – United Church of Canada
• St. Paul’s United Church
• St. Andrew’s Church Thrift Shop
• Southminster-Steinhauer United Church
• McDougall United Church
• Bethel United Church – Forestburg
• Grace United Trustees
• Namao United Church Women’s

This is a glimpse at some of our United Church supporters. Thank you to all the others who contribute but aren’t mentioned here.

Core Funders

A special thank you to our core funders who represent 75% of the resources required to fund our 19 programs. Their long term commitments allow Bissell Centre to plan how to build capacity and see the lives of those in the inner city changed – moving from poverty to prosperity.

United Way – Alberta Capital Region

As a Member Agency, Bissell Centre benefits from United Way’s efforts to provide a strong community. Several Bissell Centre programs receive funding through United Way but most prominently the Robert Tegler Friendship Room (also known as the “Drop-In”). Please visit their website to find out more:  www.myUnitedWay.ca

According to United Way, “We focus on the big picture. Our goal is not defined by a single cause but rather to improve the social conditions of our community on the whole. Our work engages the entire community in a united effort – those offering solutions and others offering the resources to get at what matters most to citizens in our region. No other organization does that.”

City of Edmonton – Family & Community Support Services

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is a joint municipal/provincial partnership that funds preventive social service programs that enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities. The City, with the assistance of the Community Services Advisory Board (CSAB), identifies priorities for FCSS funding annually on the basis of current social planning and demographic information.

Homeward Trust

Homeward Trust Edmonton is a not for profit organization that uses a community-based approach toward the goal of ending homelessness in Edmonton. Their primary role is to coordinate responses to housing needs by working together with local agencies, like Bissell Centre, and all orders of government.

Homeward Trust embraces the principle of ‘housing first’—that every person has the right to a safe, secure home. This principle is at the core of both the Government of Alberta’s and City of Edmonton’s 10 year plans to end homelessness. Homeward Trust provides collaboration and central administration for the Housing First support program.  Bissell Centre’s Homeless to Homes program is one of the Housing First programs in Edmonton.

Homeward Trust is funded by the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta, City of Edmonton and proud community partners.
